The last few weeks most of northern Queensland has been flooded (still is) and most of the southern part of the country has been VERY hot. These photos come from South Australia where temperatures have been more than 40 degrees C every day.
Just so you understand how unusual this is - Koalas don't drink at all. They get all the moisture they need from the eucalyptus leaves. They also don't swim - don't go near water at all.

The photo of the Koala sitting in the little tub is one of the strangest photos I've ever seen. He looks like a little intelligent alien creature. And your explanation makes the photos all the more sad, knowing how much all the animals of the world are suffering because of our excess.
